China’s express delivery industry has reached a groundbreaking milestone, handling over 150 billion parcels in 2023, according to the State Post Bureau. This achievement showcases the rapid growth of the sector, which has become a cornerstone of the nation’s economic activity and logistics network.

On average, one person in China received more than 100 parcels last year. The industry now processes over 5,400 parcel orders every second. At its peak in 2023, daily parcel deliveries exceeded 729 million, while monthly shipment volumes surpassed 13 billion. This surge in activity has contributed to an impressive business revenue of over 100 billion yuan (US$13.81 billion) each month.

The explosive growth of parcel deliveries is not merely statistical—it reflects the immense scale of economic dynamism in China. The express delivery market has become a vital catalyst for economic activity, facilitating the seamless transport of goods from manufacturers to consumers.

Zhao Guojun, director of the postal development research center, emphasized that the sector plays a critical role in enhancing supply chain efficiency, accelerating industrial upgrades, and improving the overall economic flow. By streamlining logistics, the industry supports not only e-commerce but also traditional manufacturing and retail sectors.

Since 2014, when the industry processed 14 billion parcels annually, its growth has been meteoric. Investments in advanced infrastructure and innovative technologies have made China’s express delivery network one of the most efficient and expansive in the world.

As the industry continues to expand, its role in boosting economic resilience, creating jobs, and supporting rural and urban markets is expected to grow further. The State Post Bureau remains committed to refining services and ensuring that the logistics sector keeps pace with the evolving demands of consumers and businesses across China.
